Having just returned from skiing in Flaine & Samoens in March, spring skiing arrived in the second half of the week. Luckily we were prepared, these are our 5 recommeded essentials:
- Sun protection
- Hydration rucksack
- Warm but highly breathable thermal
- Category 3 ski goggles
- Lighter buff
1. Skiing sun cream protects skin from the sun at high altitudes as well as from the reflective surfaces of snow and ice. Lip balm included too.
2. A backpack with hydration bladder is ideal as the temperatures warm up. A Camelbak is slim profile so doesn't impede you sitting on a chair lift and keeps you hydrated all day long.
3. In the afternoon the temperatures can be in the 20's but first thing in the morning is still chilly. Wearing an icebreaker 200 oasis thermal top keeps you warm when you need it but breathes and wicks moisture away when you are hot. Can be worn alone as a top.
4. Category 3 ski goggles or adaptive ski goggles (change with the light conditions) are key in the bright sunlight at this time of years. Allows you to clearly see the definition of the slopes.
5. Neck warmers are still useful, keeping you warm if you suddenly go to into shade or cooler conditions
